The Shed in Falmouth is a lovely little restaurant and bar just by the National Maritime Museum. In the mornings, the restaurant serves slap-up breakfasts to hungry passers-by, as well as various sandwiches throughout the day. From noon, the all-day menu keeps diners well-fed and many choose to stay for the whole afternoon, overlooking the pier. Although most visitors opt to sit outside, there’s a lot of charm on the inside too. The interior features plenty of exposed brick, quirky signs and even a heart-shaped archway in the middle of the room. Diners can perch at the bar for a quick coffee or cocktail, or settle at one of the tables for a more relaxed dining experience.
Before midday, choose from hearty breakfast options like the house full English, featuring smoked streaky bacon, Cornish farmhouse sausages, hash browns, baked beans, tomato, mushroom, poached egg and toast. If you prefer something a little sweeter in the mornings, try the waffles topped with egg, bacon and maple syrup.
Later in the day, the menu becomes considerably more global. As such, you can start with hummus, Padron peppers, curried cauliflower, baked brie or even king prawn gnocchi with lemon and dill. All palates are catered to here, which is part of the reason for the restaurant’s popularity. Mains, meanwhile, feature comfort food favourites like sticky BBQ brisket, chargrilled chicken, fish and chips and nachos. For something a little spicier, try the house laksa, made with spiced coconut broth, Asian vegetables, rice noodles, beansprouts and chilli, coriander and peanuts.
Alternatively, double down on the comforting theme with a burger. Choose from the house beef patty, fried breaded chicken fillet or carrot and lentil patty, all served with Monterey Jack, tomato, pickle, lettuce, burger cheese sauce, crispy onions and fries. Finish with a warm chocolate brownie, New York-style cheesecake or a more simple affogato. There is also a dedicated children’s menu with plenty of crowd pleasers.
