“A family favourite for over 40 years” says a fan of this “wonderful” boutique inn on the outskirts of Llandeilo – and he’s not alone in singing its praises. “Stunning views” over the Towy Valley are just one of its many assets: “the service is amazing, the food is out of this world, and nothing is too much trouble”, notes a regular. The Plough delivers satisfaction right through the day, whether you’re here for breakfast, morning coffee, a light lunch, afternoon tea or cocktails – although the kitchen shows its real prowess in the evening. Dinner in the conservatory restaurant might bring seared scallops with Moroccan cauliflower and leek couscous, ahead of slow-roasted shoulder of lamb with braised red cabbage, elderberry and port jus or walnut-crusted cod with parsnip mash, wilted kale and tomato cream sauce. Steaks, curry and lasagne please the traditionalists, while puds might bring lemon cheesecake with raspberry coulis. “A sheer joy, time after time.”
