The Bull's Head in Craswall is surrounded by Hereford's gorgeous countryside, dubbed 'The Black Mountains’ local' after the nearby scenery. It's one of the last unspoiled drover's inns in England and offers a delightful spot to eat and drink whilst surrounded by nature.
Today, the vibe is authentic, welcoming and rustically stylish with vintage, wooden seating, a sage green colour palette and features like original stone hearths and flagstone flooring. It retains a lot of its history, having undergone a restoration project to add a few practical additions. What's more, The Bull's Head has double cabins that are available for overnight guests.
When it comes to food, The Bull's Head has developed its menus with the history, tradition and food culture of the Black Mountains in mind. In 2022, the team were included in The Michelin Guide's run down of best pubs in Herefordshire and are proud to work with local suppliers for the best ingredients.
The a la carte menu has a farm-to-table ethos with dishes that change with the seasons. First up, why not start with an aperitif and a couple of snacks, such as rarebit croquettes or home cured charcuterie with pickled fennel.
Starters look like pate en croute served with cornichons and Dijon mustard, alongside fried pig’s head with celeriac remoulade and anchovies. For mains, we like the sound of braised beef shin with trotter suet pudding and mushroom ketchup or Cornish hake with leeks, mussels and a cider sauce. But if steak is your thing, you're in luck as The Bull's Head has a selection of home reared steaks served with Worcestershire sauce butter, salt baked onions and winter leaves. Or why not stop by on a Sunday, where The Bull’s Head is serving up the works with a selection of roasts with all the trimmings.
