The Patricia is considered one of the best restaurants in Newcastle and offers a combination of modern bistro-style cooking with European influences. Located in the neighbourhood of Jesmond, The Patricia opened back in 2016 and is headed up by chef and founder Nick Grieves. Nick has extensive experience working in Michelin-starred kitchens, from the iconic River Café to Simon Rogans Fera, and grew up in Newcastle so has an affinity for the area.
The Patricia offers an ever-changing three-course menu with the option to build on it with snacks and sides. For vegetarian, vegan or pescatarian dietary requirements, these will need to be requested in advance. It’s based largely around the seasons and what’s fresh that week, so it is subject to change depending on what the restaurant has in that day. Examples of dishes might include burrata with casino di caprafico oil, braised beef with ratte potatoes gem lettuce and gorgonzola fonduta and chocolate mousse with Yorkshire rhubarb and salted peanuts. There is the option to add a cheese course or batch filter coffee for an extra cost.
The drinks menu features a list of low-intervention wines from small-scale suppliers. It promises a comprehensive amalgamation of both the classic and the obscure, with wines available to order by the glass or bottle. See a blackboard of rotating specials for something a little different, as well as plenty of usual suspects such as Burgundys, Rhones and lots of biodynamic bottles.
The interiors are simple and understated to match a menu of dishes that are no more complicated than they need to be. Check out the restaurant's social channels where it posts its most up-to-date menus, so you can see what's coming up that week.
