Nestled on the charming Church Street in Falmouth, The Orgia is a friendly neighbourhood wine bar and kitchen. Sister to The Bottle in Newquay, the bar offers a carefully curated selection of cocktails and wine, with small plates to accompany the drinks. There is a special focus on skin contact wines here, making it a great place to try orange wine for anyone who hasn’t. The cocktails, meanwhile feature unusual twists on more familiar classics, and staff are more than happy to offer recommendations for either. The interiors here are simply furnished, with bottles and plants lining the walls and various shapes of wine glass dangling above the bar.
Those hankering for a little fizz upon arrival can choose from an unfiltered Dorset number, a low-intervention Cremant D’Alsace or a bone dry rose frizzante, the last of which being a perfect pairing for oysters. Elsewhere you’ll find some interesting primarily French old-world entries, available by the glass, bottle or litre. Cocktails, meanwhile, feature options like the Oyster Bay, which blends ‘Daring’ Salcombe Gin with Lillet, vodka and a twist of lemon, or the smoked and stormy, which features Fever Tree smokey ginger ale with Salcombe rum and lime.
Anyone not wanting more than a snack will still be catered to by the likes of olives, smoked almonds, paprika hummus with lavash and ‘Le Snack’ (salted crisps, manchego, membrillo quince and guindilla peppers). Charcuterie and cheese boards are also available, perfect for grazing while sampling the various wines and cocktails. More substantial options, meanwhile, include burrata with pea and mint, smoked duck rillettes with pickles and sourdough or hasselback potatoes with garlic oil and optional truffle pecorino. Going heartier still, you’ll find more main course-style dishes like duck breast with fermented plum sauce, Indian spiced roasted squash with tzatziki and pan-fried pork chop with smoked apple and whiskey butter.
