THE GRILL ON THE ALLEY CLOSED PERMANENTLY IN 2018
After 10 years’ service, this steakhouse from the Living Ventures Group has undergone a revamp, with wood and leather furnishings and comfortable booths now lending it a sleek, laid-back vibe. The new menu focuses on 28-day aged steaks, fresh fish and seafood, alongside inventive cocktails. We enjoyed our starter – a tender, sticky St Louis bone-in rib with a sweet orange and honey glaze – but steak’s the thing here. The menu includes classic cuts plus English, Galician, Wagyu and Australian fillet. Try the new ‘Butchers Block’: a sizeable slab of beef, dry-aged using Himalayan rock salt, then cut and weighed at table. Our Hereford rib-eye, served with thick-cut chips, was well-marbled with a robust beefy flavour and had an appealing char from the grill, but best was a flawlessly cooked Australian Aberdeen black fillet, the buttery soft flesh enhanced by creamy peppercorn sauce. A favourite venue that has improved with age.
