The Garden Bar & Restaurant is a bright and airy eatery found inside the four-star Hotel Penzance, which has stunning views down to the coast. Chef Ben Reeve's menu is focused around finding the best local produce, whether that be locally grown vegetables or fish landed in St Ives, and using it to create inventive dinners. Whether you're on the lookout for a memorable afternoon tea, or are wanting to go out for a celebratory three course dinner, The Garden Bar & Restaurant is a fantastic spot for all occasions.
Having been fully refurbished and rebranded in 2020 (the restaurant was formerly known as The Bay), the dining room now aims to bring the outside in. The pale walls are drenched in foliage while an array of lanterns hang from the roof giving the space a relaxed yet stylish feel. The impressive conservatory area boats large windows which allow light to flood in and provides diners with wonderful views out over the harbour and beyond.
The Garden Bar & Restaurant’s affordable menu is priced at just £17.95 for three courses. You can expect starters ranging from a bao bun filled with slow roasted pork belly, hoisin sauce and spring onion to salt cod arancini served with a saffron aioli. When it comes to main courses, there’s everything on offer from a fish burger with tartare sauce, fries and spicy tomato chutney to more luxurious plates such as chargrilled rump steak with a blue cheese stuffed mushroom, and a seafood platter. Visit between 2:30-4:30pm to enjoy The Garden Bar & Restaurant’s traditional afternoon tea, which can be upgraded to include a glass of Prosecco.
In terms of drinks, there’s a decent selection of wines available by the glass and bottles, while other options include classic cocktails, a variety of spirits, soft drinks and more.
