Wing it to the Angel, where this devilish new drinking den is fresher than its similarly named predecessor off Chapel Market. As well as a fair selection of beers, wines, Champagne, premium spirits and reasonably priced cocktails, there’s also a range of a dozen Bullet vodka shots and Canadian flavoured whiskies by Fireball – cockle-warmers for a clientele of festival slackers, Brandon Flowers wannabes and retro rock chicks. Go to ‘heaven’ or end up in ‘hell’ – the pub's two kick-back lounges done out in dark, gothic romantic style – or seek out the Calvinist church pulpit, which has been converted to accommodate DJ decks. Edgy live bands are also promised on a regular basis, along with street/circus performers and other acts. Food isn’t available, but you may bring in your own grub – this Fallen Angel is nothing if not forgiving.
