With cosy, high-end interiors and a menu of please-all hearty dishes, The Crown in Chiswick is one of west London’s most popular spots for people looking for a couple of drinks and some high-end pub grub.
The main dining room has plush banquette seating in a rich navy blue, and the walls are covered in a mix of artworks that give the whole place an eclectic vibe. With huge windows and panelled walls, there’s plenty of natural light while an air of cosiness is retained for that perfect balance. If you prefer dining al fresco, there is also a covered, heated outdoor terrace that can be used year-round, which of course really comes into its own on sunny days.
While the menu makes the most of British ingredients, the kitchen team is well-used to creating internationally influenced plates. To kick things off there are snacks like garlic prawns or padron peppers, while starters might bring a venison tartare or moules mariniere. Mains run from an indulgent house burger (topped with cheese, sausage and a homemade sauce) through to a plump piece of hazelnut crusted hake with butternut squash puree and a Jerusalem artichoke gratin. Steaks are a signature here too and range from an onglet through to an impressive chateaubriand which comes with grilled romaine lettuce and fries, plus your choice of dips from a line-up of caramelised onion, a blue cheese butter and a peppercorn sauce.
Aside from enjoying a traditional sit-down meal, The Crown also makes the ideal spot to enjoy a few drinks or snacks. Plus, come Sunday the charming team serves a cracking roast dinner which comes with all the trimmings – we’re talking roast potatoes, cabbage, carrots, swede, cauliflower cheese and Yorkshire puddings. The main event options include crispy belly pork, beef rump and a hearty mushroom Wellington.
