The Craster Arms, part of the North Coast Collective trilogy, is one of the best-loved spots for eating, drinking and sleeping in the Beadnell area. Here you'll find plenty of hearty British plates, with some proper Northumbrian hospitality to match.
The Craster Arms is a stunning building with a rich history. Although it's only been in operation since 1818 (although that's quite a long time if you ask us!), the rear of the building incorporates the ruins of a medival tower house dating from around 1587. Inside you'll find more modern but still familiar pub touches, such as exposed brick, cosy fireplaces with roaring open fires and wooden beams.
Lunch is available every day, with classic pub grub divided into sandwiches, paninis and jacket potatoes, as well as star dishes grilled Northumbrian kippers and roast anchovy fillets.
The main menu is a glorious platter of Britain's finest. British food is king here, with some dishes from around the world providing international flavours. Kick things off with some steaming hot Shetland mussels or a ham, chicken and black pudding terrine, before moving onto the mouthwatering selection of burgers, steaks and main dishes to kill those hunger pangs stone dead. Standout options include Whitby wholetail scampi, Turnballs of Alnwick steak pie with homemade gravy, and a minty Moroccan tagine complete with pomegranate couscous.
Wash it all down with wine chosen from the generous selection, or an old favourite straight from the tap.
It's not just the hearty food that's a draw here. The Craster Arms places a huge importance on engaging with the local community, through its friendly customer servce, but also by providing a variety of entertainment throughout the year. The venue plays host to local bands at weekends, with music ranging from tribute acts to contemporary folk music, as well as holding an annual beer festival in its beer garden every July.
