Sonnet is a totally unique restaurant with a special concept behind what it does. Created by Gary McDermott and Claudia Mazareanu, Sonnet is found in the heart of Alnwick and offers diners a wonderful culinary experience year round, with just one menu. Using the finest produce that is available, the team focuses on ingredients that are currently in season, or those that have been preserved. At Sonnet, you'll find food that feels welcoming and warm, created by chefs who would love to eat it themselves. The menu contains plenty of big flavours, many of which are cooked over fire, lots are playful, but what remains consistent is that the dishes on offer are focused on the finest from land and sea.
The restaurant is open from Wednesday through to Saturday and starts serving drinks at 6.30pm. Dinner begins at 7pm, and includes 14 courses throughout the evening to just 14 guests. Your booking at Sonnet will last for up to three hours, and your table is yours for the whole evening. You won't feel rushed at all at Sonnet, where a relaxed environment surrounds you.
The menu is simple, and quite vague. It changes with the seasons, and you'll never know what you'll be presented with. Some of the dish titles on the menu include a chicken cigar, BBQ cow, cheese and onion pasty, 'French toast', hand dived scallop, bring back the Caramac and yesterday's coffee. It's pretty clear that dishes here are special – long to be remembered.
The ingredients at Sonnet are largely sourced from some of the best producers and farmers across the country. The protected landscapes in North East England have many agricultural and fishing gems, along with drinks producers that are popping up locally all the time.
