The Church Mouse in Chester-le-Street is a country pub oozing rural charm and rustic character. Our picturesque surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for savouring the hearty, seasonal pub-food on our menu, and the carefully nurtured cask ales and fine wines gracing our bar.
The mining community of Chester Moor has been in need of refreshment since the first colliery opened in 1889, with over 700 men and boys working in the pits by 1940. Following the closure of the final colliery in the 1960's, The Church Mouse now welcomes locals and travellers making the journey between Newcastle upon Tyne, Durham and Sunderland.
The Church Mouse is a good base from which to explore many attractions such as Riverside Park in Chester-le-Street. Its central feature is a 16ft castle inspired by Lumley Castle which overlooks the park.
