The Hope & Anchor is a riverside restaurant, pub, bar and inn located in the heart of Ross-on-Wye in Herefordshire. Comprising the more relaxed Hope & Anchor pub, serving an all-day menu of home-cooked dishes, and the neighbouring Pavilion restaurant where diners can enjoy brunch, afternoon tea or a fine dining experience for dinner, this multi-faceted foodie destination caters for all meal types and occasions.
The main pub offers a laid-back, traditional setting for guests to pop in for everything from a pint of bitter to a slap-up cooked breakfast or a home-cooked meal. Open all day, there are multiple menus to choose from including breakfast, all-day, kids’, pizza and drinks offerings. The main menu includes a selection of starters, salads and main courses perfect for lunch or dinner, including flame grilled chicken wings with BBQ sauce, a honey roast ham and cheese Ploughmans salad and crowd-pleasing mains such as burgers, ribs, curry and chilli con cane.
The Pavilion, meanwhile, offers a contemporary dining experience in a more formal setting, with guests entering the smart restaurant via a bright cocktail bar area. The offering here ranges from brunch to afternoon tea and dinner, but examples of the dishes you can expect to sample from its main menu include smoked cod croquettes with quail eggs and sautéed chorizo salad, pad fried duck breast with Parmentier potatoes, honey and butternut squash puree and red wine jus, and a chateaubriand sharing steak with fondant potatoes, greens, calamari rings and shallot puree.
An assortment of spirits, draught beers and wines are available to drink, while an extensive cocktail list featuring classic, prosecco and Champagne-based drinks also play a starring role. Look out for a number of non-alcoholic cocktails too, such as a no-jito and pink lemonade. Cocktail Masterclasses are also available for up to eight people subject to availability.
