Pennyhill Park’s Michelin-starred Latymer restaurant may be the hotel’s answer to special-occasion dining, but for a more casual meal, the Brasserie offers “great food for a great price”. Head chef Daniel Lee has devised a menu of unpretentious yet elegant dishes, with an emphasis on modern Anglo-European flavours and seasonal ingredients. For breakfast and lunch, various ‘interactive mobile buffet stations’ offer an every-changing supply of food, but dinner adds a touch more conventional formality to proceedings. Follow the three-course format by ordering, say, scallops with chorizo ragù and roast salsify followed by crispy pork belly with black pudding cassoulet, celeriac and cavolonero. Steaks are shown the charcoal grill, while puds might range from passion fruit crème brûlée with milk-chocolate ice cream to almond crémeux with honeycomb and lemon thyme ice cream. Meanwhile, Sunday lunch is a carvery aimed at the whole family, with the jolly sounds of a jazz trio in the background. “Absolutely amazing”, declares one fan.
