Appleby Magna in Leicestershire, as well as being listed in the Domesday book, is home to a lovingly restored 16th century grade II listed building – The Black Horse Restaurant and Bar. It’s a beloved village pub and The Black Horse also offers a stellar dining experience, with loyal customers coming back again and again for mouth-watering classic European cuisine. The lovingly restored Tudor exterior belies a contemporary and cosy interior – perfect for a relaxing meal on a cold day. If you’re lucky enough to visit on a warm day, there’s also the option to go al fresco. Using much locally sourced and organic produce, the menus change with the seasons, though customers really rate the chicken liver parfait with white truffle oil and ciabatta, and the pub classic – 21 day matured sirloin steak with triple-cooked chips. Desserts, too, are worth saving room for, as are the fantastic real ales.
