Pay the 1573 Bar & Grill in Highcross, Leicester, a visit and be warmed by its inviting atmosphere, modern design and tasteful decor. A Grade ll-listed building built originally in 1573, the aptly named 1573 Bar & Grill is a locally loved, independent restaurant that opened in August 2009, and serves up traditional pub food.
An all-day dining spot, enjoy either the lunch or a la carte menu throughout the week, which features a few pub classics, but really puts its emphasis on steaks cooked on a griddle, and large plates from land and sea. As you sit down, try some warm ciabatta, mixed olives and garlic bread, before ordering some starters, such as paprika dusted calamari with herby mayonnaise, alongside the likes of chicken liver parfait on brioche or half a rack of BBQ pork ribs.
For mains, you need to take a look at the '1573 Steak Experience' which invites guests to choose their cut, enjoy its smokey flavour and lightly charred texture over the gas griddle, and get stuck into sides of seasoned roast mushroom, grilled tomato, garlic butter and either potatoes, fries or chips. Other must-trys look to be the marinated cajun chicken burger, roasted seabass or cauliflower wings, all of which can be enjoyed with seasonal vegetables, garlic mushrooms or a range of sauces. As for desserts, we like the sound of profiteroles dusted with icing sugar and served with chocolate sauce!
Complementing the dining experience is a thoughtfully curated list of beverages. Choose from a menu of fine wines, liqueurs and spirits, beers and cider to perfectly accompany your dining experience. If you like a cocktail or two, you may go for the restaurant's specials such as the risque Sex on the “Grill” with vodka, Archers, orange and cranberry, or perhaps the Jamaican Spice with Malibu, passion fruit and pineapple.
