There are plenty of pleasant hostelries on the Kingston riverside, & The Bishop, with its reliable drinks & comfortable, easy-going attitude, is as nice as any. It’s a Young’s pub, & there are at least four ales on tap, but you’ll find a good choice of bottled beers too, plus a short wine list. If the welcoming main bar room & riverside terrace fail to attract, try the decadent, rather beautiful room upstairs, where jewelled velvet sofas are the order of the day, & DJs play on Friday nights. Food is served – sharing platters, pizzas, & mains such as fish & chips or lamb’s liver with bubble & squeak – but it’s not a strong point. This is a drinker’s pub through & through, & the menu is principally for ballast.
