Aptly named, the Big Smoke has wafted into the garden of Fulham’s Elk Bar, armed with its groundbreaking Primo XL BBQ – a ceramic beauty that uses charcoal rather than gas for a better flavour, and can be modified for baking bread or smoking food. Enclosed in an authentic wooden shack, customers can relax on rustic benches amid exotic plants and bright umbrellas, while they munch their way through racks of ribs, pulled pork and piri-piri chicken, plus heavyweight burgers including the Squealer and the Balboa; also check out the Man vs. Food board for even more daunting gastronomic challenges. To go with the food, the owners have devised a range of beer- and tobacco-infused cocktails: try an old fashioned spiked with Perique tobacco liqueur, or a funky flip comprising Meantime Pale Ale, Bacardi Oakheart rum, ginger syrup, nutmeg and a dash of sours.
