Occupying a sizeable plot within Shoreditch's vibrant new hub, Principal Place, The Allegory is the latest site to join Drake & Morgan’s burgeoning portfolio. Featuring a large open-plan bar and plenty of outdoor seating, it’s geared towards the young City crowd whose office doorsteps it sits on, and those looking for something a little tamer than the edgy joints the area is famous for. Cosy candlelit corners make dining after sundown an intimate affair, while the kitchen turns out a mostly solid, if a little predictable, menu. The fresh dishes, including the heritage beetroot with whipped goat’s cheese and walnuts, and pan-fried salmon with tenderstem broccoli were full of flavour, but our crab bruschetta was a little bland. The Allegory doesn’t push any boundaries, but if a stylish setting, super-friendly staff and a well-stocked bar appeal, you’ll feel right at home.
