SquareMeal Review of Thai Room
Bronze Award
Nestled at the back of Bow Wharf, just a short walk from Victoria Park, this modest little neighbourhood restaurant gets praise for its “excellent Thai food and nice surroundings”. Ethnic artefacts, window blinds and other exotica create a slightly colonial feel, while the menu features all the usual suspects, from chicken satay and som tum salad to padanus-flavoured pancakes or gluay baut chee (a traditional dessert involving sliced banana in creamy coconut milk topped with sesame seeds). In between, expect the likes of ‘drunken’ beef, massaman curry and char-grilled prawns with dried chilli, cashews and tamarind sauce – plus the usual stir-fries, rice and noodle plates. Set menus are built for sharing, while great-value lunches offer a choice of simple starters and mains for just over a tenner. Alternatively, order a takeaway or delivery online.
