Edinburgh is famous for its character - from winding cobblestone streets, to live music venues with hundreds of years of history, it's full of unique experiences. One of which is Rollo Broughton, an intimate, quirky cocktail bar with a delicious menu of small plates to boot.
Rollo was proudly founded by an all-female team in 2013 and over the years has become a much-loved haunt of locals. With a mix of high bar seating and intimate corners to hunker down in, it's brimming with atmosphere and the perfect place for a date or catch up with close friends. The decor favours darker hues and a mix of internationally-inspired ornaments, complemented by candlelight.
The team's passion really resides in fantastic drinks - both expertly-selected wines and creative cocktail recipes. The cocktail list is impressively long, spanning 10 pages of classic drinks and those with a twist, as well as house favourites. For example, if you have a penchant for an Old Fashioned, try Rollo's 'peaty chocolate' take, which brings together Laphroaig 10 year old with brown sugar and chocolate bitters. Or, if you're in the mood to try something totally new, there's The Rollo Way with drinks like the Latin Threesome, with white, dark and spiced rum, fresh pineapple chunks, sugar and lime.
But, it's not all about the drinks - the food menu has plenty of choice, too. Depending on whether you fancy just a nibble or a whole meal, you can choose between bites, bowls or plates, complemented by sides and puddings. While the bites section offers the likes of lamb and goat cheese bon bons, plates look like Coraled King scallops with truffled cauliflower puree, raisin gel and crispy lotus root, or crackling pork belly with chorizo and broad beans. For pudding, we love the sound of Affogato with espresso, vanilla ice cream and liqueur, or Rollo's special lavender and vanilla creme brûlée with lemon shortbread.
