Rochester is a town in Kent, and is at the lowest bridging point of the River Medway, just around 30 miles from London, making it a popular choice with commuters into the city. It's got a pretty rich heritage, and at the centre of Rochester are the Cathedral and Castle, which have much importance along with other historical buildings in the area. This very place was cherished by Charles Dickens, who lived in the area as a child and often returned, when he was a successful author. The grand Castle in Rochester is of Norman heritage, and the Cathedral was founded in 604 making it the second oldest in England. If you enjoy being outdoors then take on the Rochester Green Spaces Trail, which allows you to follow a route from the heart of the town southwards through to Borstal. The high street here has plenty of independent shops to peruse, along with several of the high street favourites and plenty of cafes, restaurants, pubs and bars. Other great things to do in Rochester include visiting the Guildhall, the Corn Exchange, Restoration House, but of course the Castle and Cathedral remain at the top of any visitors list.
