Helmed by North East native and Hairy Biker Si King, PROPA! offers nostalgic British dishes and regional favourites inspired by the age-old tradition of going for a pint and a pie before a big match. Just yards from the Stadium of Light, PROPA! stands as an affordable ‘grab and go’ outfit in the recently developed Sheepfolds Stables, which saw former North Eastern Railway stables converted into a destination for drinks, food, entertainment and events. For those not heading off to the stadium, ample seating is available in the canopy-covered courtyard to pitch up with a pint of Hairy Bikers IPA in front of the fire pit and catch the game on the big screen.
Working alongside venture partner and developer of Sheepfolds Stables, Richard Marsden, PROPA! joins eateries and bars serving dishes from the Mediterranean to Asia and the Caribbean. But the PROPA! menu is all about nostalgic and regional dishes, homestyle cooking, and time-honoured recipes.
King has cooked up a menu stacked with homemade pies such as steak and ale, cheese and onion, and corned beef alongside nostalgic plates of corned beef hash, spam fritters, and stottie sandwiches. In true Sunderland style, the PROPA! menu also offers panackelty, the classic Mackem casserole traditionally based around beef or lamb with potatoes and onion. Meanwhile, breakfast items at PROPA! might include egg and bacon stotties, cheese on toast, North East potato ‘floddies’ and Full English breakfasts alongside sourdough specials and meat-free options.
To deliver the highest quality and support the local economy King and his team source ingredients from producers and suppliers in Sunderland and the surrounding region. PROPA! is also committed to sustainability and charities, with Marsden and King exploring partnerships with local charities to minimise waste and distribute excess food throughout the community.
