Porthminster Kitchen is the second restaurant from the team behind the popular Porthminster Beach Café, known for its enviable setting on one of St Ives’ most pristine beaches, where epic sunsets are guaranteed. This new location also come with built-in coastal views, but this time offering them from a different vantage point, being situated on a top floor above the harbour.
The interiors at Portminster Kitchen are inviting and relaxed, mirroring the easy charm of this coastal town. The dining room is a mixture of crisp white walls and light wooden furnishings, while the walls are lined with colourful works from artist Anthony Frost, whose pictures are inspired by the sea and the fishing boats which use the harbour every day. There are also large floor-to-ceiling windows which allow for 180 degree views of the harbour and let in plenty of natural light.
Much like its sibling venue, Porthminster Kitchen champions the very best of Cornish seafood, offering a playful menu of small plates and light options, underpinned by fresh local ingredients. The restaurant is open from breakfast, when it serves up classic breakfast dishes such as eggs benedict, wild mushroom and poached egg on toast or toasted crumpets topped with butter and jam. Later in the day, the menu gives way to a short, but considered list of small plates, with a few larger options to boot.
Kickstart your meal with the likes of celeriac and apple soup or tandoori monkfish served alongside an onion seed flatbread and chutney. When it comes to main courses, there are classic options such as beer-battered fish and chips with tartar sauce and seafood linguine, as well as globally inspired dishes such as vegetable curry with fragrant rice. Round things off with a warm chocolate brownie or selection of cheeses. Kids menu also available.
