John Page’s grandfather started selling fish and chips in the Pontypool suburb of Sebastopol back in 1949, and the family subsequently went on to open this award-winning Cwmbran restaurant and takeaway in 2011. Battered haddock, cod, plaice and hake from sustainable sources are the mainstays of the menu, bolstered by sea bass, tuna, monkfish, swordfish and fishcakes. There are chicken goujons, pies and pasties too – plus a few oddities such as Welsh faggots and chicken curry, ahead of apple crumble and hot fudge cake. Page’s is licensed, so you can order a pint of Tetley’s, a bottle of Budweiser or a tot of sherry if you need something stronger than tea. Note that the upstairs room is great favourite for big parties and birthday bashes.
