Mr Fogg’s City Tavern is a beautiful spot that is decorated in a Victorian style, with welcoming, friendly faces and old school furnishings, Mr Fogg’s feels like you could have stepped into another world. In Broadgate Circle, this tavern is a place where those working in the city, along with friends fancying a great pint, and hungry tummies can converge.
On the walls, Victorian portraits are scattered, and artefacts that are collected from world travels are also on show, personally contributed by Mr Fogg’s fellow members of the Reform Club. The signature menu begins with punch – the most friendly of drinks. The One Inch Punch is made with Smirnoff Black No. 55 Small Batch vodka, Choya sake, pink grapefruit juice, yuzu and matcha green tea syrup and is topped with sparkling wine. One time nanny to Mr Fogg, Ms Octavia Copperspoon, has drinks named after her. The Stockbroker’s Sour contains Woodford Reserve Bourbon whiskey, Grahams LBV port, Martini Riserva Speciale Bitter aperitif, blueberry purée, mulled spice and vanilla syrup, egg white and fresh lemon juice. All the classics are of course on the menu, from Aperol Spritz and the Old Fashioned, to Negronis and Margaritas.
When it comes to food, from Monday to Saturday at 12 to 3pm there is a great lunch offering. On Sundays, roast dinners are served with a Mr Fogg twist from midday – complete with all the trimmings. On the small plates menu there are cheese and beer croquettes made with cheddar and light blonde beer, coated in a rustic oat-flecked crumb, served with paprika mayonnaise, and pigs in blankets, served with honey and mustard sauce. Bigger plates include the chicken, cheese and bacon burger made with deep fried or grilled chicken breast with cheddar cheese, crispy bacon, lettuce and tomato, whilst the classic of Fogg’s deep fried, beer battered cod bites also feature.
