The very first Mildreds opened on Greek Street in 1988, and the name has been popular across London ever since. The team's aim was to serve delicious vegetarian food to the diners that search for something fresh and exciting in Soho, but the dishes are never bland or boring. The restaurant is now completely plant-based, as of 2021, and having expanded their delivery network, releasing a range of cookbooks and opening several more restaurants, Mildreds has become a well known name across London.
The in house development team are always creating new and exciting flavours, and led by creative director Sarah Wasserman, the team pride themselves on bold ideas that treat guests to the very best in vegan cuisine. Mildred's in Victoria is new for spring 2024, and will be open all week long, from 8am on weekdays, and 9am on weekends. The restaurant is dog friendly, has outdoor seating and step free access, and is suitable for large group dining.
From the all day menu, we'd order the rainbow pickles, before enjoying a start of hot mango pepper glazed corn ribs, with pimento aioli and lime toasted coconut. Plates and bowls include the pineapple som gaeng with Thai tamarind peanut curry, a spicy pineapple lime leaf sambal, tenderstem broccoli, beansprouts, roast peanuts and crispy fried shallots all served with rice noodles. Buns are served with lemon pepper chips and include the Korean fried chick+n burger with gochujang chilli and sesame glaze, and some house classic kimchi would taste wonderful on the side.
Vegan desserts, boring? Certainly not here. Try the white chocolate tiramisu made with an almond sponge cake that has been soaked in coffee, or the creme brulee with vanilla custard, morello cherry compote and pistachio puffed quinoa.
