Located in the vibrant Nova development, just a stone's throw away from Buckingham Palace, Casa do Frango Victoria is a casual southern Portuguese restaurant specialising in grilled peri-peri and authentic Algarvan cookery. Casa has been chipping away at the hegemony established by well-known peri-peri megachains since 2018.
The fourth London location, Casa do Frango Victoria is a bright and airy venue set over two floors with soaring ceilings and large glass windows. Yet the space is comfortable and cosy with a somewhat rustic charm. Think hanging plants, a carefully complimentary colour scheme, Portuguese ceramics, and azulejo tiling. And if the weather decides to behave for you, you’ll also find some sun-soaked alfresco seating on the terrace.
Like its sisters, Casa Victoria is about authentic peri-peri flavour, traditional cooking techniques and sharing the relaxed uncomplicated dining culture typical of The Algarve. Unlike certain not-to-be-named fast-service restaurants, Casa do Frango Victoria uses an age-old recipe and only ever grills over wood charcoal. The menu revolves around the Frango piri-piri half chicken and a range of traditional sharing plates and side dishes.
Those who have ventured through the doors of the Borough and Shoreditch branches will immediately recognise the signature charred cauliflower with a honey, lemon and piri-piri marinade, the casa rice witch chorizo and crisped chicken skin, and the bacalhau fritters served. Guests can also expect sides such as sweet potato with roasted pepper yoghurt, garlic mushrooms, and Montanheira salad. As for dessert, picture pastel de nata, traditional almond cake, and bolo de bolacha. There’s also an entirely Portuguese wine list that includes velvety reds from the Duoro Valley regio, fresh grassy whites from Vinho Verde, and Casa do Frango’s white blend, Boa Pinga.
