Tucked away in the heart of Camden, Jugad is an authentic Indian restaurant, offering an array of classic dishes, but with their own healthy, modern twist. For those looking for the bold flavours of the sub-continent, Jugad is a celebration of its founder's Indian heritage, but with the addition of several British favourites that invites diners to enjoy something a bit more unexpected.
Named after the Hindi word for ‘innovative way of repairing,’ Jugad’s ethos is all about treating ‘food as medicine’, mixing up your traditional Indian restaurant with a modern twist that helps to make eating out as sustainable and as healthy an option as possible - while ensuring dishes are still equally delicious.
Menus here have been created by executive chef Jose Fernandes, who previously worked at Gunpowder restaurant. You'll find limited options, putting the focus on the quality of each dish, with an a la carte that is split into dishes from land and sea, and those from the garden. Be sure to start with quail scotch eggs with curried crab and tomato chutney, followed by tandoori prawns with a garlic drizzle, and kashmiri lamb with papaya chutney and mint sauce.
There's a variety of gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options woven throughout the menus, catering for a whole host of dietary requirements. Vegetarians can tuck into dishes such as samosas with butternut squash and tamarind sauce and curried paneer with saag puree and tomato. To finish, be sure to try the sweet potato brownie with moonji matcha ice cream for something quite unique.
The drinks menu is quite varied, spanning classic cocktails with a Jugad twist, such as a Coconut Negroni and Tomato Paloma, with other options including sparkling, white, rose, orange and red wines, as well as beers, ciders and spirits, catering to a whole host of tastes.
