Gloucester is a city in the west of England, not too far from the Cotswolds. Right next door is where you'll find the busy Cheltenham, which is home to one of the world's biggest racing events. Gloucester has a history that dates back to pre-middle ages, and a great number of monastic establishments that still stand today, such as St Peter's Abbey – which was founded in 679 and is now known as Gloucester Cathedral. There's plenty to do in Gloucester but if you find yourself here with some extra time, we definitely recommend a day trip to nearby Cheltenham or Oxford. Or, if you enjoy the great outdoors, why not just get in the car and do a road trip through the rolling hills of the Cotswolds.
