Franco Manca’s Bishopsgate location is centrally located between Liverpool Street and Spitalfields. The restaurant is easy to get to, with great links to the rest of the city from Liverpool Street, Aldgate, and Aldgate east underground stations. There are loads of cool markets, funky boutiques, and artsy stalls around with Petticoat Lane and Old Spitalfields Market both just around the corner for some hipster retail therapy. The pizzeria is great for tourists and Londoners alike, for grabbing a quick pizza between catching all the sights London has to offer or for a relaxing one after work.
You can’t go wrong with a classic margherita sourdough pizza topped with fresh British mozzarella and bright basil from Franco Manca’s. If you’re looking to be more adventurous, but still keeping it seasonal, check out the daily specials blackboard for veggie and meaty delights cooked up by the chefs.
The amazing sourdough, which has brought great fame to the Franco Manca brand, is made fresh daily and proved for a minimum of 20 hours for a slow-rise. The founder, Giuseppe Mascoli invented the recipe using a stolen 18th century starter, and 100% Italian flour, from the Pivetti family farm in Bologna. The next day, the pizzaiolos stretch out the dough onto the wooden peels and top with beautiful ingredients among the likes of wild garlic pesto, fennel sausage, and goat’s curd. The pizzas are cooked for under a minute in the wood-fired ovens imported from Naples to create the crunchy, chewy crust. By this time, you’ll be salivating as you watch the pizzaiolos pull the beautiful pizzas out of the oven.
The ingredients are well sourced from British and Italian producers, with vegetables, cured meats, cheeses, tomatoes, and more all brought in the prime of their season to a pizza near you. Get excited for amazing pizza.
