Tony Allan’s first chippie outside Borough Market links a great fish shop (Jarvis) to a pretty good fish & chip outfit – an ideal marriage. Fitted out with slate tiles & fixed tables (with huge fryers to one side), the interior has an attractive retro look. The menu, which also serves as a placemat, contains all the classics & plenty more besides: from cod or haddock & chips to grilled squid with a piquant tomato salsa, or scallops in bacon with beurre blanc, plus a selection of daily specials. Alternatively, staff will happily cook something special from the shop next door. Start with prawn tempura & finish with sticky toffee pudding. It all comes at a price, but that doesn’t prevent a queue for tables & takeaways at busy times.
