A Castlefield stalwart, Dukes 92 is among the first places that spring to Mancunian minds when the sun shines. It was opened in 1991 in a former stable block and has since been extended and refurbished three times. Innovations include a glass balcony overlooking the canal basin and a dedicated restaurant space, with table service, alongside the airy beamed bar. You’re as likely to see a bride and groom disappearing into the function space as you are a group of post-work sun-seekers on the generous canalside terrace. A loaded plate of cheese and pâté from the deli counter has remained the house signature throughout, along with Sunday lunches such as roast pork stuffed with garlic and herbs, or cheese and onion pie. The beer list features some unusual variations to the norm, such as Vedett Extra White. Sister venue Albert’s Shed, more restaurant than bar, is next door.
