Dreamworld Cakes is a family-run continental patisserie in the heart of Ouseburn in Newcastle. Open from Wednesday to Sunday, it serves brunch, afternoon tea, drinks and a selection of continental patisseries all day long.
The concept was launched by Bernadett and Richard who are both professionally trained pastry chefs. They originally met in London while working at Nadell Patisserie, but in 2007 decided to move up to Newcastle to be closer to Richard’s family, and to establish Dreamworld Cakes. For many years, the company focused entirely on making wedding cakes, but in 2017 the duo spotted a gap in the market and decided to expand the business. Noticing that Newcastle lacked anywhere to buy beautiful artisan cakes, they established the patisserie side of the business and have never looked back. Both Bernadett and Richard have since competed on Great British Bake Off: The Professionals 2019.
Guests can now enjoy its artisan cakes at the café in Ouseburn, or choose to take them away, perhaps for a special occasion or to give as a gift. The café also serves afternoon tea, as well as a brunch and light lunch menu. This includes the likes of filled croissants and sandwiches alongside other sweet and savoury treats.
Those who choose to sit in can enjoy its signature cakes in the cool and trendy surrounds of the cafe, which boasts Scandi-style wooden detailing and plenty of pot plants scattered around the room. There’s a counter showcasing many of its colourful patisseries, while the drinks menu is written up in black ink on the wall. There’s also an alfresco terrace that’s perfect during the summer months, with garden-style tables and chairs and large umbrellas to offer shelter and shade when required.
