Crug Glâs is a beautifully rustic country house, nestled in the heart of Pembrokeshire's stunning countryside, offering a locally-focused dining experience and rooms. From the moment you walk up to this proud, period property, it's clear the house is brimming with history. The original site was built circa the 12th century and belonging to the church for centuries.
Today, husband and wife team, Perkin and Janet own and run the place, but their coming together is a storied tale, too. You see, Janet's ancestors have lived in Crug Glâs since the 1600s, while Perkin's family bought the property in the 1950s. Fate would have it that decades later, Perkin and Janet would meet, share their mutual love of Crug Glâs and take it back over as a team.
Together, they've transformed Crug Glâs into a nature lover's retreat, and part of this includes an in-house restaurant which aims to shine a spotlight on the brilliant local produce. As the team say, "Pembrokeshire offers some of the best fish, meat and vegetables around. So when you eat with us, you’ll find that most ingredients have been sourced from the fields and waters right here, by Crug Glâs."
The a la carte menu is proudly seasonal, so don't get too attached to any of the dishes on the website sample. But, for a flavour of what to expect, starters might include plates like pigeon breast with red wine sauce, alongside fried haloumi with slightly spiced dahl, or black currant sorbet.
Across the mains, you'll find hearty dishes suiting to meat eaters, pescatarians and vegetarians, with mushroom wellington and crushed new potatoes, as well as venison loin with blackberry sauce and crushed new potatoes, plus seabass on roasted red peppers, heritage tomatoes and red pesto with garlic potatoes.
There's also an afternoon tea menu, especially lovely when celebrating a special occasion, as well as a Sunday lunch meny for the end of the week.
