Part of the Crisis charity for single homeless people and ex-offenders, this spacious, light-filled daytime café close to Newcastle’s humming Quayside is manned by trainees under the supervision of
experienced chefs. ‘Homemade from scratch’ is the culinary message, and the short daily menus bring a whole host of sandwiches, paninis and baguettes, plus soups and hot dishes. There are often
colourful salads too, as well as assorted cakes and pastries. Seasonal and locally sourced ingredients are at the hub of things, backed by carefully sourced coffees and other drinks – if you simply
want to lounge on one of the sofas. Training courses are offered for people wanting to work in the catering industry.
