Some years ago, master brewer Colonel Porter teamed up with a chief chemist, Archie Jones, to create Newcastle Brown Ale (Dog, Journey Into Space and Lunatic's Broth). Here, you can enjoy vintage cocktails, tipsy teas, rum, masterclasses and real ales. A few things happened in between, but then Colonel Porter's Emporium opened and this tavern paired the botanical gardens and rhum bar to make up this special spot. But when it comes to food, there are lots of options to choose from.
There are many different delicious options to choose from when it comes to your dining. Perhaps you'll enjoy starters of twice baked Roquefort blue cheese souffles with Waldorf salad and walnut dressing, or a house cured sea trout with pickled samphire and pink grapefruit, cucumber and wasabi yoghurt. Your main event will be delish, and you can choose from a braised shin of beef with smoked potato puree, Brown Ale roasted carrots and a red wine jus or a celeriac and wild mushroom mille feuille with a slow cooked hen egg and crispy shallot crumb.
For rhum and gaehaca, choose from Admiral Rodney or Appleton Estate Reserve 8 Years Old, and that's just the 'A' categories, there are pages, and pages of incredible options at this hidden gem. Sunday to Friday you'll find great deals on cocktails, or be able to book onto a mixology class. Enjoy flavour combos behind the Happy Ever After, made with Red Leg spiced rum, triple sec, lime juice and orange juice, a dash of gingerbread and cinnamon syrup, or the sweeter Pineapple Express with Dead Man's Fingers pineapple rum, Midori melon, pineapple and lime juice and a passionfruit syrup.
