The basement bar at Joe’s, Cocktail Baby is where to score Coco Pops sips: jam jar jollies for Milky Bar kidults. More developed palates aren’t ignored, though, so you might also encounter the likes of New Orleans Julep (with Courvoisier, apricot brandy, mint leaves and gomme syrup), Rumdog Millionaire (£8) and – top tipple at a tenner a time – an English Margarita that introduces blackberry, lime and orange marmalade to its Tres Generaciones premium Tequila base. Lethal Louisiana Iced Tea, Martinis (£5) and Mojitos, along with £20 bottles of wine and happy-hour deals ‘available at all times’, get the disco funk and house party started. Bar food is the sort of Southern-style diner chow that’s found from Maine to New Mexico: popcorn shrimp, hot dogs, Tabasco honey-coated fried wings; or beef brisket chilli with tortillas and sour cream – try it with some Wisconsin-brewed beer and a Pickleback, perhaps.
