La Goccia Bar is the floral-themed cocktail lounge that accompanies the Italian restaurant from Petersham Nurseries, serving up fresh drinks until late at night.
Simply by stepping into the bar, it is clear that the inspiration for the restaurant stems (pardon the pun) from the botanical. The bar is decorated with modern art from Petersham Nurseries founder Francesco Boglione’s personal collection, depicting abstract flowers from contemporary artists like Jorge Galindo and Alex Katz. Though the eyes are naturally drawn to the paintings on the wall, the garden charm continues to the furniture - the bar is decorated with real leaves dipped in bronze, and even the bar stool legs are entertwined with metal branches. The rest of the room embodies an understated art deco vibe, featuring low red velvet couches, antique mirrored tables, and patterned rugs, while the party is contained by the velvet curtain blocking the door.
The bar's menu is completely seasonal and changes according to what ingredients can be freshly acquired, one such example being the 'Winter in the Woods' menu, which clearly continues the floral aura by garnishing each drink with real herbs and flowers. The Smoked Orange features herbal notes from Aperol and amaro, with Mexican mezcal providing smoky undertones, while The Pear Tree combines rum with pear juice, tonka bean and cloves. Other stars include The Applestar, which showcased this year’s autumn and winter apple crop with just a hint of citrus, star anise, almond, and a pour of artisan gin, and the Remedy, the bar's interpretation of a hot toddy, with herb-infused whiskey, honey, and citrus.
La Goccia Bar also offers a selection of Italian wines from Petersham Cellar and organic beers from Gilt & Flint, and there are also some options available for those who prefer not to drink alcohol, including non-alcoholic cocktails, soft drinks, teas, and coffees.
