Located in the heart of Leicester’s cultural quarter, Chutney Ivy is a smart Indian restaurant serving traditional dishes alongside curry house classics. The dining room here offers a sleek and simple backdrop, which allows the colours and robust flavours of the food to do the talking.
The menu at Chutney Ivy is extensive and varied, ranging from snacks and starters to main courses and dishes from a grill. If you are new to Indian cuisine, there will almost certainly be a few terms you will be unfamiliar with, but the friendly and knowledgeable staff will be happy to explain what’s in each dish. If you would rather alleviate the burden of choice though, Chutney Mary does offer a few set menu options; choose the Executive or Banquet feasts if you want to get a taste for everything on the menu, which are designed to share between two and consist of a parade of dishes.
If you choose to dine from the a la carte, you can kick start your meal with the likes of deep-fried vegetable bhajia or Jeera hot wings, which are marinated in spices overnight and then finished off in the Tandoor grill. Main courses meanwhile see familiar dishes such as lamb rogan josh and chicken jalfrezi, as well as the option to try a mixed grill featuring a medley of sheek kebabs, chicken tikka and pulled Tandoori chicken, served alongside masala chips, salad and dips.
Chutney Ivy is also a shrewd choice for vegetarian and vegan diners, who will have plenty of dishes to choose from. Try the classic Bengali snack of Shingara (savoury pastries stuffed with mashed potato and curry leaves), before moving on to paneer cooked in a tomato and butter sauce or Okra dusted with mango powder and a selection of five different spices.
Chutney Ivy also offers a great value pre- or post-theatre menu if you are catching a show at the nearby Curve theatre, while home delivery and takeaway is available too.
