Chiswick is a leafy district in London's borough of Hounslow. It's got a real village feel to it, despite being home to many commuters who work in the city. The high streets are dotted with independent shops, wine bars, and high end restaurants, while historic buildings still stand proud. Chiswick was the former residence of the 18th century English artist William Hogarth, and his house is now open as a museum. Chiswick House is one of the country's best examples of 18th century Palladian architecture, and is the former Lord Burlington's home. Chiswick House is the oldest house in Chiswick, and was built in 1729, being one of West London's most beautiful grand designs ever since. There's plenty to do in Chiswick, even if you don't want to commute into the city – such as catching a laugh at a comedy club, followed by a pint in a local pub, strolling through Chiswick flower market, or enjoying some local theatre.
