Café Rouge - Kingsway

We booked for pre theatre supper at 18:00. We placed our order for one starter and 2 main courses at 18:20. By 18:50 the starter of avocado & bacon salad arrived, minus bacon! They had run out. This was A dish on the prix fixe menu. The Morroccan chicken main course on the prix fixe menu was not available , but we could order chicken with a mustard sauce. Our main courses still did not appear by 19:10 and so we walked out. We warned the waitress several times that we were going to the theatre and so expected prompt service. She didn't seem too bothered. She even said if we had to go we did not need to pay. We did have a bottle of wine whilst waiting, but she said we did not need to pay for it. Clearly they were short staffed in the restaurant and possibly in the kitchen too. There was no evidence of any supervisor or manager in the restaurant. We were extremely disappointed by this poor experience and went to see a nearby theatre show feeling hungry. At the theatre we had a meal of cashew nuts as a starter and a bag of crisps main course! I have eaten and Cafe Rouge many times and usually the experience is good. We have not visited the Kingsway one before and will not be going back any time soon.
