Located in North London next to the charming and beautiful Newington Green, Cadet is a wine bar, shop and charcutier serving a daily-changing menu. Opened in 2022, this trendy spot serves wine and charcuterie from a cave-à-manger style kitchen, with a dedicated team at the helm. Jamie Smart leads the the kitchen, the charcuterie is taken care of by George Jephson, while all wine is imported from Beattie and Roberts. Bookings are available, but do note that it keeps half the space free for walk-in guests.
The menu changes daily and features a variety of dishes using local and seasonal produce. Seafood plates might include monkfish with carrots and imperial lemon, or mussels with leeks and pepper dulse. Vegetarians are taken of too, with the likes of celeriac, radicchio and hazelnut. Of course, the charcuterie selection is not to be missed, with a blackboard displaying what's on offer that day. To finish, try one of Cadet's tempting desserts, such as beetroot with blackberries and lavender, or homemade ice cream.
To accompany your meal, or just to sip on with a snack, enjoy a glass (or bottle) of wine imported from Beattie and Roberts. Cadet also hosts a roster of special events every month, from guest chef appearances to star winemakers.
You can find this charming wine bar open seven days a week, with food served from 5pm on Monday and Tuesday, and 6pm during the rest of the week. This trendy hangout features old-school decor, from hanging lampshades and wooden stools, to blackboards mounted on the walls. Big front windows flood the space with natural light during the day, and there are a few chairs and tables plonked outside during the warmer months, where punters can relax with a glass of wine and some small plates.
