Lovely food; overpriced wine
My wife and I plus our two daughters dined at the restaurant for the first time last night. We were a little concerned by some of the reviews that we'd seen, particularly about the quality of service, but it was fine without being exceptional. The cocktails were excellent, though a little over priced, even for Knightsbridge. The food was generally very good, although the chili salt baby squid was more batter than squid and a little overcooked.
We took advantage of the current promotional offer of a 50% discount on the price of a la carte main dishes, but the service charge was calculate before discount which, whilst not a big difference, is the sort of practice which irritates.
Our principal disappointment was the price of the wine. A bottle of Gavi de Gavi Broglia "La Meirana" has a retail price of c£14 a bottle; we were charged £78. I expect a mark up of 3x or even 4x in a top West End restaurant, but this was nearly 5x, which is outrageous! Also, whilst the wine list named the wine correctly, the bill incorrectly showed it as Bruno Broglia, which is an altogether superior wine with a retail price of c£19 a bottle!
