SquareMeal Review of Signor Sassi

Replete with “old-school Knightsbridge”, Signor Sassi is still a local hit more than three decades after opening its doors in the moneyed enclaves of SW1. It’s no mean feat to hang on to your long-standing admirers while winning over newcomers, but this place pulls it off with a combination of genuine warmth, bubbly vibes and unfailingly good food. Navigate a vast menu that stays true to classic trattoria cuisine (more like the stuff you actually get in Italy) – everything from mussels and clams in white wine with tomatoes and garlic to osso bucco with saffron risotto or beef tagliata with balsamic, brandy and rocket. There’s also plenty of traditional pasta (tagliolini with crab, garganelli with spicy sausage etc), plus a list of ‘daily specials’ that just seems to run and run. Signor Sassi’s jaunty turquoise facade is unmistakable, likewise its driftwood and mirrored interior.

DO NOT GO - AVOID AT ALL COSTS - PIMPING AND UNFRIENDLY MANAGEMENT

I was there with my friend on Saturday, 12 February and the table in front of us was a group of three men and three (working) girls. One of the men was talking very loudly, raising his voice to the girls, telling them who they can and cannot sleep with, that they should "shut the f*** up" or he will get them fired from the job he got them and there were bundles of cash being exchanged at the table, as well as boxes of pills. One of the girls tried to say something and he just yelled at her and told her to "shut the f*** up" and kept reminding the girls that he got them their job, their flat and that they have no money. Some of the customers tried to complain about the noise that table was making but the staff just shrugged their shoulders and said they didn't see or hear anything, which was clearly a cover as there was no way anyone could not hear this old man. It was obvious to everyone what was going on at that table and the other customers were all feeling very uncomfortable but the staff and the management wouldn't do anything. It seemed super sketchy so I would avoid it at all costs. There are nicer better value Italian restaurants around town.

RACISTS!

Cannot comment on the food as we was told that payment would be needed upfront of the meal as they believed we were part of the travelling community due to the way me and my group were dressed. When we refused to do so as no one else in the restaurant had been singled out like this, we were told to leave. We are not a part of the travelling community however I feel absolutely appalled on behalf of them if this is the treatment they are receiving in 2020! Staff rude and discriminatory, I will 100% be taking this further to trading standards. You should be ashamed of yourselves.

Beware How You Book this Restaurant.....
Book directly with the restaurant or through their own website as I have just found out. Having booked a table for a family meal for an 18th birthday this Saturday at 19.00 through the link on Square Meal. I have just been informed by Signor Sassi's receptionist that they cannot honour this confirmed booking (confirmation email received from Square Meal) as they take their own website bookings first and therefore there is now only tables available at 21.00! Poor Customer management Signor Sassi!
