Bodega Cantina is located in the centre of Leicester, and is a restaurant with two floors of excellent South American excellency. Sunday is happy hour, all day long, whilst every other day it runs between 3 and 6.30pm, and then from 9pm until close.
Bodega Cantina have their own take on some of Mexico's most popular dishes, including the famous sharing nachos made with fresh flour tortillas, topped with sour cream, salsa fresca, guacamole, jalapenos, and a homemade cheese sauce. You can choose your nacho topping from slow roasted Dr Pepper marinated pork and mole sauce chicken, to the chipotle beef brisket. Burittos come with fillings of oven roasted peppers and avocado, spicy sauteed chorizo and potatoes with mushrooms, whilst the enchiladas are stuffed with black beans, melted cheese and smothered in a rich, homemade sauce.
Two authentic hand sized, blue corn tortilla tacos are folded around a selection of delicious fillings, including the chicken with pickled and shredded red cabbage, topped with a fresh pineapple salsa, and the crispy cauliflower florets on a bed of fresh slaw, topped with guaca-coconut. There are a great variety of large plates, including the breaded halloumi burger in a toasted flour tortilla with mayo and salsa, served with baja smoky slaw and skin on fries, and the Brazilian moqueca with prawns, white fish, leeks, tomatoes and coriander in a coconut milk and chimichurri sauce, served with white rice and potato wedges. If you enjoy curries, order the xim xim with potato, leeks, peppers and onions cooked in a peanut butter and coconut sauce with chilli, garlic and lemon juice. For a Mexican take on some classics, enjoy the pambazo hot dog dipped in ranchero tomato sauce, and grilled before being topped with guacamole and pickled red onion, or the tender Argentinian rump steak with a chimichurri dressing.
