Since the massive renovation and investment that preceeded the London 2012 Olympic Games, Stratford is fast growing to be one of the most exciting neighbourhoods in London. This long-time transport hub for north east London has spawned a host of new residential developments, attracting an influx of people and, naturally, brand new commercial businesses too. The Queen Elizabeth Park that was built during the Olympics is one of the main focal points of the area providing a huge green space for local residents that is also a reminder of the area’s recent history. Westfield Stratford is also a major landmark of the area. Having been one of the first parts of the regeneration project to open in 2011, the shopping centre is now home to several of the restaurants on this list.
More recently Stratford has become home to cultural institutions like the Theatre Royal Stratford East and the Stratford East Picturehouse and the planned arrival of the V&A East and Sadler’s Wells East. Higher education campuses like University College East and the London College of Fashion have also chosen Stratford as their home. All of these elements contribute to a vibrant and dynamic population that are eager to find somewhere to grab a quick bite or enjoy a leisurely meal.
Our list covers all the best places to eat in this part of the capital, although it occasionally strays into the realms of Hackney Wick, given that it's just a short walk across the park. A lot of the restaurants in this collection are situated in the shiny new skyscrapers that are an increasingly common feature of East London’s skyline and as a consequence many of them offer some great views alongside their stellar menus. We've also examined many of the food options in and around Westfield Stratford, separating the great from the good so you know where to go on your next shopping trip.
