With floral upholstery and bold, swirly walls striking a pose somewhere between pretty and modern, this City offshoot of Bea’s on Theobalds Road knows how to shows off its mouth-watering displays of cakes and other goodies. The daily lunch menu always brings a soup (carrot and ginger, say) plus colourful salads, deli-style sandwiches and a couple of hot dishes – perhaps roast chicken with gremolata, a pasta bake or roasted broccoli with garlic and almonds. Kick-starting breakfasts might feature homemade honey and coconut granola, while afternoon tea is the full works served on a quirky tea stand (from Undergrowth Design). The food is matched by some classy caffeine hits (courtesy of Square Mile coffee) to go with Bea’s signature ‘duffins’ (doughnut muffins), as well as Valrhona hot chocolate and a bespoke version of spiced chai. You can book at weekends.
