Aqua was opened in 1998 by proprietor Richard Smithson, to this day it remains a proud independent father and son family business. All three of the three locations maintain Aqua’s ethos – to create an experience which marries exciting flavours and sustainably sourced produce with impeccable service and a relaxed but elegant atmosphere. The Aqua Welsh Back menu changes with the seasons to put the best available produce first and foremost and ensure each plate is fresh and balanced.
Open for brunch, lunch, dinner, and Sunday roasts, Aqua Welsh Back prides itself on maintaining its loyal following and fostering partnerships with local suppliers. The restaurant itself is a convivial location, with a few glamorous touches making it ideal for a variety of locations whether it be a casual brunch with friends, a celebratory birthday dinner with family or an intimate date night.
The a la carte menu kicks off with a selection of nibbles, offering house focaccia with rosemary and sea salt, Porlock oysters, roast garlic and mozzarella flatbreads and courgette fritti. Then it’s onto small plates and salads, including the likes of moules mariniere with sourdough, porcini mushroom and thyme arancini, beef brisket croquettes, and chicken caesar salad. As for the mains, think slow braised Exmoor lamb shank, pesto stuffed breaded chicken, wild mushroom wellington, and cornish sea bass with celeriac puree. There’s also a fine selection of fire roasted sourdough pizzas, along with pasta dishes, risotto, and dishes from the grill.
Following the same Italian and British theme, desserts include vanilla creme brulee, an indulgent sticky toffee pudding with caramel sauce, tiramisu, and a fig honey and almond tart. Alternatively, guests can opt for a selection of local cheeses, or snap up a miniature dessert paired with either coffee or a dessert cocktail - we’ve got our eyes on that salted caramel espresso martini.
