From the team behind award winning Indian eatery Nutmeg, Nadu is a Tamil Restaurant inspired by the flavours of the Tamil Diaspora in Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka. Located in the heart of Bristol's cultural area Stokes Croft, owners Raja and Saravanan are thrilled to bring a taste of authentic cuisine refined with a contemporary twist, alongside an innovative drinks list and vibrant atmosphere. A suitable destination for everything from drinks with friends to a leisurely dinner, this popular spot welcomes walk-ins, although is usually busy and it's recommended to book ahead.
On the menu, expect a variety of Sri Lanka's signature dishes, with plenty of meat, vegetarian and vegan options. Small plates include dishes like Garam Pagoda, chickpea battered kale and onions, sweetened yoghurt, tamarind and mint chutney, crispy prawns and mixed peppers tossed in a spicy devil sauce, and spiced pastry rolls stuffed with lamb, masala potato and Colombo spices. Guests are encouraged to try a range of plates to share for the main event, to experience a broad range of Sri Lankan cuisine. Large plates such as roasted beef bone marrow and spiced minced meat feature, as well as a selection of vegetable, lentil and nut-based curries, plus meaty options like slow cooked pork belly in dark roasted spices. Accompanied by Nadu's signature tear and share dosa, roti or parotta for mopping up, there's plenty to choose from.
On the drinks side of things, expect enticing cocktails and specially selected rums, from rich and aged to tropical and herbaceous. There's also a rum of the day served with a draught mixer. If cocktails are your thing, why not try the Sri Lankan twist on the Cuban classic Arrackuiri with notes of lemongrass, cardamom and citrus? There are also beers, wine, mocktails and soft drinks on offer so there's something for everyone.
